Rising researchers in science and technology are recognized and supported by The Academy of Medicine, Engineering & Science of Texas (TAMEST).
Their O’Donnell Awards acknowledge outstanding achievements by Texas-based researchers in four categories: Medicine, Engineering, Science, and Technology Innovation.
TAMEST asked us to create images of their recently commissioned medals, exquisitely designed and crafted 4-inch metal discs.
The project included an initial exploration phase, comparing the possibilities and renderings of various cameras, lenses, and lighting setups.
Based on the incredible detail and punchy rendering, we decided on an uncommon combination of an extension ring and Leica’s Summilux 50mm lens, on a Leica M Typ 240 camera.
The lighting setup improved incrementally with several iterations and input from TAMEST’s designer, who received a live-transmit feed of images during one of the exploratory shoots, providing helpful feedback and creative suggestions in realtime.
The final images were processed and digitally delivered the next day.
